New Years Day Hang over cure!
Go to:
We all get into the festive spirit over the holidays but why does there have to be consequences! Blitz through the following routeen to counter strike alcohol's toxic vengence!
Have another Cocktail?!
Begin the fight back with 500ml of orange juice mixed with 500ml water and 1/4tsp salt. The salt ensures the liquid is taken up by the body and doesn’t just flush strait through while the Vitamin C and sugars in the orange juice give you an energy kick, and the water? Well that goes’ strait to your brain, which has shrunk due to dehydration and is pulling painfully at the lining of your skull!
Listen to the right kind of music.
It doesn’t matter if its techno or Mozart, tracks that play at 120 beats per minute greatly improve your memory, motivation and focus...which is something you’re surely lacking this morning!
Workout!
I know this is the last thing you want to do, but 5 minutes of pain is better than 12 hours of hell! A quick workout helps you shift the chemical leftovers of drinking alcohol out faster making the hangover end sooner. Don't use weights! Perform stable exercises using only your own bodyweight. Due to your condition, this keeps the workout safe while your body gets a rush of feel good endorphins without you having to move to much...just keep a bucket to hand just in case.
What to do: Do 1 set of 15 traditional press-ups immediately (no break!) followed by 10 squats. Drink some water then do another set. Details below:
Traditional press-up: Lie down with the weight on your hands and the balls of your feet, arms out shoulder width apart. Now lower yourself to the floor by bending your our elbows and then push back up to the start. There are variations on this technique explained below.
Squat: stand comfortably with your hands locked behind your head. Now lower yourself until yours thighs (upper part of your leg) are parallel with the floor and then push back to your starting position.
Shower
Research from Humboldt University found bursts of cold water increases oxygen flow around the body. Once you’re out apply an eye gel such as Molton Browns Eye rescue Ultracool to boost circulation.
Breakfast
Congratulations! After all that you deserve a good breakfast. Make yourself a poached egg on wholemeal toast. Your liver is far too busy metabolising alcohol to produce more glucose to fix your low blood sugar but the carbohydrate in the wholemeal toast will bring your levels back. Not only does the egg provide valuable protein to your muscles after your exercise but the cysteine mops up acetaldehyde; a side product created by your liver when it breaks down alcohol. Getting rid of your acetaldehyde is a good idea as this is the chemical that contributes to the nausea and vomiting of a hangover.
Finish with natural yogurt and honey. The yogurt restores the "good" bacteria in your intestines preventing you being sick and lines the stomach. While the honey replaces your depleted sodium, potassium and electrolytes. All the while drinking plenty of fluids.
